Recycling Hearing Aids -Hearing Aid Recycling

We are delighted to be supporting Hearing Aid Recycling (HAR), a British sustainability led organisation that has set up a network of 1100 collection centres around the country, including our Farnham Common clinic, to take delivery of all hearing aids that are no longer needed, so they don’t end up as landfill!

HAR are also happy to receive unwanted aids in the post. There are no restrictions, the aids can be old or new. Their mission is to recover, repurpose and reuse donated aids and redistribute them where they will have the most positive impact to poor people around the world.

The World Health Organisation (WHO) estimates that 278 million people around the world have moderate to profound hearing loss in both ears. But less than 10% of those people will ever get hearing aids because annual production doesn’t go anywhere near meeting the demand. The poor are especially affected because they are unable to afford the preventative care necessary to avoid hearing loss, or hearing aids to improve their hearing.

Hearing impairment and deafness are serious disabilities that can impose heavy social and economic burdens on individuals, families, communities and countries.

Children with hearing impairment often experience delayed development of speech and language skills, which may result in slow learning and difficulty in school. Adults who are hard of hearing often experience difficulty in obtaining and keeping employment. Both children and adults may suffer from social isolation as a result of hearing impairment.

Hearing aid recycling – how the scheme works

If you input your postcode into the HAR interactive map you will find the nearest drop off point for you on the map or in a list below it.  They also have an A-Z list of centres that are arranged by County.  Just type in the first letter of your County.  You can then select your county. Scroll through until you, hopefully, find somewhere convenient for you! Or, you also have the option of posting your unwanted aids to:
