Hearing
Windsor, Slough & Maidenhead

Hearing loss can have a dramatic effect on a person with regards to their family and their social life and indeed how they are perceived at work amongst colleagues. To others, a person's hearing loss is not the obvious conclusion as to why someone may seem a little withdrawn and non communicative.

The reality is that due to a hearing loss, one can gradually avoid certain social activities that may lead to isolation and possibly, in extreme cases, depression.

It is a fact that most hearing impaired people, who gradually lose their hearing, wait between 10 and 15 years to address the problem, usually egged on by a partner or close friend, who have become increasingly exasperated and frustrated with 'too loud a television' or non responsive queries.

It is generally recommended that anyone from the age of 45 years should have an annual hearing test as one should a dental check or an eye test. You can book a hearing test with one of our specialist audiologists at either of our practices, in Farnham Common or Marlow by calling us on 01753 642687 or 01628 482 101 respectively. Both centres are within a short drive from larger areas such as Beaconsfield, Windsor, Slough, Maidenhead and Gerrards Cross.

At Help in Hearing we believe that today is better than tomorrow in detecting whether or not a person has a hearing loss that can be treated to enable one to get on with a near to normal 'hearing life'.

Tinnitus
Marlow & Gerrards Cross

Tinnitus is characterised by sounds that are described as a continual whistling, ringing, pulsing or buzzing either in the head or in the ear(s).

There are many causes of Tinnitus and whilst sometimes they may remain unknown, excessive loud noise exposure, Meniere's disease and generally hearing loss are causes associated with Tinnitus. Stress is also known to be a contributing factor to increase the perception of Tinnitus.

Tinnitus is a symptom and not a disease, it is not life threatening but can be very distressing. It should not be dramatised but also not be made light of and it is important to remember that the quality of life can be improved.

Many people who suffer from tinnitus learn to manage it through various self-help methods. This process is not instantaneous however and may take time, so please don't feel disappointed if it doesn't work after just a short period of time and don't let yourself be put off by depressing stories. A visit to your doctor will reassure you that there are no underlying medical conditions you may be worrying about.

A hearing test will establish if you have a hearing loss and often the use of digital hearing aids can mask Tinnitus. At Help in Hearing we are able to test your hearing, assess the level of your Tinnitus, determine how it affects your daily life and help you find the appropriate Tinnitus management program based on your individual requirement.

If you are based in Windsor, Slough, Maidenhead or Gerrards Cross then there is a Help in Hearing practice nearby.
