Hearing Loss & Amplification

Hearing Tests
Windsor, Slough, Maidenhead & Gerrards Cross

Hearing loss can have a dramatic effect on a person with regards to their family and social life. Indeed an impact on how they are perceived in the work place amongst colleagues and friends, because to others, a person’s hearing loss is not the obvious conclusion as to why someone may seem a little withdrawn and non communicative in one to one and group situations.

The reality is, that due to this loss in hearing, the person in question is gradually adapting their life from avoiding certain listening environments to entire isolation and in extreme cases depression.

It is a fact that most hearing impaired people who gradually lose their hearing, wait between 10 and 15 years to address the problem, usually egged on by a partner or close friend who have become increasingly exasperated and frustrated with ‘too loud a television’ or non responsive queries.

It is generally recommended that anyone from the age of 45 years should have annual hearing tests as one should a dental check or an eye test. You can book hearing tests at either of our practices, located in Farnham Common and Marlow by calling us on 01753 642687 or 01628 482 101 respectively. Both centres are within a short drive from larger areas such as Beaconsfield, Windsor, Slough, Maidenhead and Gerrards Cross.

At Help in Hearing we believe that today is better than tomorrow in detecting whether or not a person has a hearing loss that can be treated to enable one to get on with a near to normal ‘hearing life’.

People generally do not realize that to improve one’s hearing can take time and this is really important to be aware of. In order for the brain to understand the new sounds it is receiving via hearing aids and translate them into recognizable sounds is a gradual process. Bombarding the brain with amplification will just confuse and be of little help. Buying and having hearing aids fitted is just the start. It is the aftercare (and of paramount importance) the experience and expertise of the hearing aid audiologist, during rehabilitation visits after a fitting, which makes the difference between a good investment for the client in time and money spent.

It is worthwhile pointing out that, buying hearing aids over the Internet with no one to one contact afterwards in a way of rehabilitation is in many cases a disaster financially and emotionally waiting to happen. At Help in Hearing we strongly believe that a badly fitted hearing aid is worse than not having a hearing aid at all.
